I think Barb Gordon is my hands down favourite Batgirl. And I know it's horribly useless and even ineffective in battle, but I will always love the fact that her hair flows out the back of her cowl. I don't even know why someone would design an outfit like that, but it's awesome, stylistically at least.
Le sigh...uhm....well, she was supposed to be swinging in on a bat-line or something, but hey, I'm lazy. And really, it didn't look good.

Also, you're super awesome for having the same name as me, AND spelled the same way.

And I agree with you about the cowl hair. Think how annoying it would've been to have all that hair bunched up against her neck if she hadn't done it.
And as I recall, she did originally have a full cowl. She got the back part torn off in a fight and decided it was more comfortable.
I don't mind the absence of the bat rope. She looks fantastic!

I think that's an awesome reason for the open-backed cowl. I know long hair can be a hindrance in battle, but I've also worn full-body suits with cowls and my god, is it ever hard to put those on properly if you have any substantial length of hair! [Heck, even shorter hair is a total pain to work with!] I have a Harley Quinn costume, and the headpiece only works with slicked back hair that's pinned smooth over the skull. If the hair was free-flowing in the back, you definitely wouldn't have to worry about a big clump of hot, sticky hair bunched underneath your cowl ;)

I have always assumed that people who designed superhero costumes have no actual working knowledge of A) the human body, or B) how clothing is actually made. I guess they assume that stuff like hair just goes in to a magical extra dimension inside the suit and never bulges underneath the material.

I love 'em and there's no going back. For cryin' in the rain, it was over $125 to relax my hair in 97. I don't even want to think about what it'd be now -- and with how thick my hair is, the relaxer never stayed on long enough to do the job before it was burning my scalp.
Besides, they keep me warm in winter.
And I can put 'em up in summer.

I got a perm in November and it turned out horrendous. [Bad hairstylist, never going back to that place] I asked around what it would cost to have my hair relaxed back in to it's natural state, and pretty much everyone said $200. Uuuhh...yeah, my hair is SUPPOSED to be straight, I'm not paying $200 for $5 worth of perming chemicals and 10 minutes in a chair.

But I had so much hair they had to leave it on extra long for it to have any effect at all.
And even then it wasn't enough. I'd go from looking all sleek and relaxed to looking like the love child of Lilandra and Don King inside of two weeks.
Now my worst issue is being so lazy I forget to twist the new growth so they look smooth. And that's not really a big deal.

And then there was the hairspray. Which would leave me wheezing afterward 'cause I'm asthmatic.
I'm that rare breed of woman who does not believe I need to suffer to be pretty.
