BatGirl Artwork

For the meme.

I think Barb Gordon is my hands down favourite Batgirl. And I know it's horribly useless and even ineffective in battle, but I will always love the fact that her hair flows out the back of her cowl. I don't even know why someone would design an outfit like that, but it's awesome, stylistically at least.

Le sigh...uhm....well, she was supposed to be swinging in on a bat-line or something, but hey, I'm lazy. And really, it didn't look good.

Thank you! That means so much coming from you, yours was one of the pieces that I thought was super awesome. [Do you mind if I ask which program you use to colour?]

Also, you're super awesome for having the same name as me, AND spelled the same way.

thank you for the kind words <3 and ashleigh's rock hard and in stereo.

i just used good old PS7, i stink at programs like painter ;_;

Yeah, I'm using PS7 too, but I'm horrendous at doing any sort of air-brushy/painty kind of colouring. I usually just stick with cel-shaded colouring because I lack any sort of patience. [And for the life of me I can't figure out Painter, either. I had Painter and OpenCanvas and every time I tried using them, I'd just get frustrated and start yelling at the computer.]

This is really gorgeous.

And I agree with you about the cowl hair. Think how annoying it would've been to have all that hair bunched up against her neck if she hadn't done it.

And as I recall, she did originally have a full cowl. She got the back part torn off in a fight and decided it was more comfortable.

I don't mind the absence of the bat rope. She looks fantastic!

Thank you! I'm glad the lack of rope doesn't affect the piece that much - I think I'll just say she's elbow-dropping someone ;)

I think that's an awesome reason for the open-backed cowl. I know long hair can be a hindrance in battle, but I've also worn full-body suits with cowls and my god, is it ever hard to put those on properly if you have any substantial length of hair! [Heck, even shorter hair is a total pain to work with!] I have a Harley Quinn costume, and the headpiece only works with slicked back hair that's pinned smooth over the skull. If the hair was free-flowing in the back, you definitely wouldn't have to worry about a big clump of hot, sticky hair bunched underneath your cowl ;)

I have waist length dreadlocks that are about a foot deep to my scalp, so yeah, right there with you on the "OMGbunchedupagainstmyheadnotcomfortable!" thing.

Dreadlocks are awesome! How long have you been dreading your hair?

I have always assumed that people who designed superhero costumes have no actual working knowledge of A) the human body, or B) how clothing is actually made. I guess they assume that stuff like hair just goes in to a magical extra dimension inside the suit and never bulges underneath the material.

Since 1997.

I love 'em and there's no going back. For cryin' in the rain, it was over $125 to relax my hair in 97. I don't even want to think about what it'd be now -- and with how thick my hair is, the relaxer never stayed on long enough to do the job before it was burning my scalp.

Besides, they keep me warm in winter.

And I can put 'em up in summer.

I got a perm in November and it turned out horrendous. [Bad hairstylist, never going back to that place] I asked around what it would cost to have my hair relaxed back in to it's natural state, and pretty much everyone said $200. Uuuhh...yeah, my hair is SUPPOSED to be straight, I'm not paying $200 for $5 worth of perming chemicals and 10 minutes in a chair.

In my case it was 45 mins in a chair...and every minute after the first ten was torture because the chemicals would start burning my skin.

But I had so much hair they had to leave it on extra long for it to have any effect at all.

And even then it wasn't enough. I'd go from looking all sleek and relaxed to looking like the love child of Lilandra and Don King inside of two weeks.

Now my worst issue is being so lazy I forget to twist the new growth so they look smooth. And that's not really a big deal.

You have my sympathies :( That relaxation chemical stuff smells disgusting. My husband wouldn't come near me for days after my perm because the smell just wouldn't go away.

I was lucky in that the smell wouldn't cling to me. The shampoo they used to neutralize the chemicals would usually wash out the worst, and then they washed after with something that smelled nice.

And then there was the hairspray. Which would leave me wheezing afterward 'cause I'm asthmatic.

I'm that rare breed of woman who does not believe I need to suffer to be pretty.

Batgirls and BIZMARS

Hey there! I've been clicking through all of the batgirls to find the ones i really liked and am totally stoked on yours! i dig the see-thru cape.

We're doing a big open-invite group anthology over at Young American Comics: The Bunny, Insect, Zombie, Monkey, Alien, Robot Experiment. This is our 5th annual anthology (which we'll be publishing as a Trade Paperback) and we're trying to get as many cool independent artists to participate as possible. Sorry for the crossposting, but we'd love to have you involved if you're interested! Come by YAC and check us out. Thanks. Tod

I'm glad you like the cape ;) I think that's one of my favourite parts, too.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome project! I'll definitely be submitting something, thanks so much for the info!
